Snail mail (Paper, Ink, Postage) is very effective.
Why?
Because it’s tangible, because it has less competition for attention, and because each mailing potentially has a longer shelf life than an email.
Does that mean that you shouldn’t email your list, boost ads/content to your list, or play around with YouTube or other platforms?
Absolutely not.
But if I had to rate the value of the most popular media (communication mechanisms) from best to worst in terms of cost effectiveness, off the top of my head, it would be the following (with everything below the dashed line being FAR LESS VALUABLE)…
FOR COMMUNICATING TO YOUR LIST (EXISTING CUSTOMERS, PAST CUSTOMERS, HOT PROSPECTS):
1. Snail Mail
2. Email
3. Online Social

4. TV
5. Radio
6. Blimps, Bus Stops, Billboards
If you’re giving people what they want in terms of results and experience, communicating to your list has a far better return on investment than targeting strangers.
FOR COMMUNICATING TO STRANGERS (COLD PROSPECTS)…
1. Online Social
2. Snail Mail

3. TV
4. Radio
5. Blimps, Bus Stops, Billboards
Communicating to a cold list is far more expensive, risky, and time consuming.
PERSONALLY, I PREFER A BUSINESS MODEL THAT IS AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE AND THAT DOESN’T RELY ON MEDIA THAT HAS A HISTORY OF BECOMING LESS EFFECTIVE OVER TIME.
I ALSO PREFER MEDIA THAT DOESN’T REQUIRE MUCH SKILL TO PULL OFF FOR ME, MY TEAM, AND MY MEMBERS.
Keep it simple!
