I think building a business that relies on Social Media is risky.
The rules of the game change constantly, the cost per eyeball increases over time, and it isn’t necessary if you build and nurture your list properly.
Nevertheless, for some people and products, Social Media can be a game changer if you have the passion, creativity, and personality for it.
Let’s talk about INSTAGRAM.
Instagram isn’t that different from Facebook.
You can create posts and you can “boost” them to targeted audiences.
“Hashtags” are keywords you can include in your posts to help make them findable for users searching for those hashtags.
For a local business, I’d recommend using a mix of local hashtags and broader hashtags. The local hashtags (like #danville, #danvilleca, #danvilleliving) can help potential customers find your posts. The broader hashtags (#backpain, #backpainrelief, #backpainsucks) won’t necessarily bring in people who could become patients, but they may attract people to like your posts and follow your account to provide social proof to the potential patients who end up looking at your posts/profile.
Here is a nice blend of hashtags I’d use if I posted a video or image related to back pain for a chiropractic practice in Danville, CA (as of now, you’re allowed up to 30 hashtags per post):
#backpain
#backpaintips
#backpainexercises
#backpainsupport
#backpainremedy
#backpainsucks
#backpainrelief
#backpaintreatment
#backpainhelp
#backpainbegone
#backpainsecrets
#backpainproblems
#backpainsolution
#backpaingone
#danville
#danvilleca
#danvilleliving
#danvillecalove
#danvillecalifornia
#livelocallydanville
#diablovalley
#chiropractic
#chiropracticadjustment
#chiropracticadjustments
#chiropracticworks
#chiropracticcare
#chiropractictreatment
#chiropractor
#chiropractorsofinstagram
#spinalmanipulation
For other conditions (neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, whiplash, etc.), swap out the back pain-related hashtags for the most popular/relevant hashtags for that condition. To find them, just go to the search area in Instagram and type in the condition, click TAGS, and then look at the suggestions.
If you have a post that takes off, you can promote (like a boost on Facebook) to Instagram users in your local area based on age, gender, and interests.
