I just learned a new use and meaning for the word thirsty: acting far too needy or desperate.
When it’s too obvious that a D.C. wants something from another, that person is being “thirsty”.
Being thirsty turns patients off.
Here are just a few ways that D.C.s can appear thirsty…
- Providing “Free Spinal Exams” in public places.
- Calling patients who haven’t been in the office in a while.
- Asking patients, “How did you hear about us?”
- Asking for referrals.
- Doing anything that creates a resistance or a perception of “trying too hard”.
The opposite of thirsty would be playing hard to get or being indifferent.
Being thirsty for a specific process/outcome is also a weak position to be in.
What works best is to walk in a state of awareness, openness, gratitude, and possibility.
Stay nimble at all times.
Expect everything to work out… no matter what happens.
