Your Overhead

After speaking with D.C.s from all over the U.S. and Canada, I’ve come to realize how dysfunctional the typical Chiropractor’s relationship is with their practice overhead (expenses).

  1. Most D.C.s don’t know how much their monthly overhead is because it’s too painful to keep track.
  2. Most D.C.s inaccurately factor in their own “salary” as part of their overhead. For strategic reasons, it should be considered part of their pretax profit, not their “expenses”.
  3. Some D.C.s think that doubling their practice collections shouldn’t necessarily increase their monthly overhead. Not only will it increase overhead in real dollars, but the % will also increase. It’s not unusual. It’s actually necessary.

By thinking inaccurately about expenses, you lose confidence. You become more emotional and less rational. You make bad or unhelpful decisions.

You and your practice become stagnant.

So before you worry another day about your practice, start thinking about practice overhead and expenses differently…

  • It’s smarter to spend money than to spend time.
  • The only way you grow a business is by investing in it.
  • The more money you make, the less you “work”.

So think more about your practice.

Think more about how you spend your money.

Think more about how you spend your time.

See, the way I look at it, my job is to create work for others.

That’s how I (and you) compress time, become way more productive, and yes, make “more money”.

Money is merely a tool.

Don’t just put it away.

Use it (and others) to work for you!
